Century Rods - By Matthew
Ward
Hello and
welcome to the review section I am Matthew
Ward and I will be writing a review on the
best rods in Britain; the Century Range.
These rods are true masterpieces made by
what is believed to be one of the best rod
companies on the market. From beach rods,
and now well into the carp rod industry,
they are not to be argued with. If they
can make a beach rod to break records, they
can definitely make carp rods to suit all
fishing occasions.
Firstly I will comment on the price. They
are very expensive rods starting from £115
for the spod rods up to £278.00 for the
13ft fmj's. These rods are obviously aimed
at the more mature angler.
THE BIG BERTHA
The Big Bertha is a spod rod. There are
two models in this range starting with the
'c' model at £115.00. This rod is capable
of casting spods of around 8-9oz and will
cast them to around 80yards. The rod is
fully equipped with fuji sic guides and
a fuji DPS2O reel fitting and eva handles.
Now the 'DD' model; this rod being the more
heavier rod in the range is capable of casting
spods around 12oz to 100yards. With the
same spec as the 'c' model this rod costs
£120.00 These rods are the ultimate spodding
rods.
THE
CENTURY M1
This is the
starter rod, Century don't come any cheaper
than this at £99.50. It has all the qualities
of a much more expensive rod with fuji sic
guides throughout and a fuji reel fitting.
Available in 2 3/4 lb tc only at 12 foot.
Not to be argued with at this price.
THE
CENTURY TOP GUN RODS
This rod is the second cheapest in the range.
I personally would class it as the only
all round carp rod that Century produce.
The rod itself is capable of fishing at
distance or in the margins as it has a responsive
tip action. It is available in three models;
the 2 1/2lb test curve 12foot, the 2 3/4lb
test curve 12 foot and the 3lb test curve
12 foot. These rods are ideal for the novice
who dosen't mind spending a bit of money
when starting. The ultimate all round carp
rod to suit the novice or experienced angler.
Retailing at £150 to £160.
THE
CENTURY FAT BOY SLIM
No not the singer, these rods are a very
good rod and come in all different lengths
and test curves ranging from 2 1/4lb test
curve 12 ft up to 3 1/2lb test curve 13
foot in quarter pounds they retail for around
£185.00 up to £195.00. They are capable
of international carping and the lighter
models for margin fishing.
THE
CENTURY SP
This is the third cheapest in the range
of carp rods that century produce. The price
varies from £199.00 to £206.00, depending
on the test curve and the length. Depending
on the distance you want to achieve the
rod will cost you more or less for the short
range version. The rods are available in
2 3/4lb test curve, 12 foot at £199.00,
3 1/2lb 12 foot £201.00 and 3 1/2lb 13 foot
£207.00. These rods are excellent and are
capable of handling all fishing situations
the 13 foot version is actually built using
world record casting technology. The rod
itself is finished in gunmetal over a chevron
braid and is equipped with fuji sic line
guides and a fuji NPS20 reel fitting. These
rods are a very good long distance rod and
will handle all fish to some extent.
THE
CENTURY NG
Century have really come up trumps on this
one, Century describe this rod as the definitive
multi range rod. Why? Because carp anglers
say so. The technology used is that used
to build space shuttles and is engineered
from the highest grades of carbon fibre
available with autoclave technology. The
price starts from £201.00 and goes up to
£215.00 There are three models available
starting with the 2 3/4lb test curve 12
footer, 3 1/2lb test curve 12 foot and the
3 1/2lb test curve 13 footer. And again
the price reflects the length and power
the rods all have excellent casting power
and are arguably the best multi range rods
on the market. I myself have had the pleasure
of playing a twenty pound carp on one of
the 13 footers and the feeling and playing
action is second to none. Also Century have
started doing there custom build reel fitting
for this rod it is a magnificent piece of
engineering finished in stainless steel
and can be fitted at extra cost to all new
Century NG rods.
THE
CENTURY FMJ
(NOT TO BE LAUGHED AT IN ANY WAY) Century
have really pushed the boat out with this
rod. The rods are available in two different
models the 12 foot at £268.00 and the 13
foot at £278.00. These are thee international
and big carp rods capable of handling leads
between 3 and 5 oz. Century dirt give them
a test curve because they are so powerful.
they are thee snag rods and will handle
any carp in the world. The rod itself is
built using fuji sic guides and has a fuji
NPS20 reel seat the butt ring is 50mm. These
rods are a big carp anglers dream.
